What is Atopica used for?
Atopica is used for the control of atopic dermatitis (skin allergies).
For:

Minimizes scratching, which can aggravate skin conditions.
How it works:
Atopica contains cyclosporine, which suppresses the immune system. It is used to treat skin-related conditions by targeting the immune cells involved in the allergic reaction.
What you should know:
It may take several weeks for maximum results to be achieved. For seasonal allergies, it may be recommended that you begin giving Atopica 1-2 months prior to the time that allergic reaction typically begins. The impact of cyclosporine on the immune response to modified live vaccines is unknown.
How to give this medication:
Atopica should be given at least one hour before or two hours after a meal. The initial daily dose of Atopica is 3.3-6.7 mg/kg/day given as a single daily dose for 30 days. Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the veterinarian or pharmacist to explain them to you.
If you miss a dose:
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and give the next one as directed. Do not double dose.
Atopica should not be used in:
Do not use in dogs with a history of malignant disorders or suspected malignance. Do not use in dogs with a history of neoplasia or a hypersensitivity to cyclosporine. The safety and effectiveness of Atopica has not been established in dogs less than 6 months of age or less than 4 lbs body weight. Atopica is not for use in breeding dogs, pregnant or lactating bitches.
Possible side effects:
Side effects may include loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. If you observe any of these side effects, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
