(EasyCare) Easycare, Inc., in collaboration with Old Mac's, has released a new and improved "Generation 2" Old Mac Multi-purpose Horse Boot. The G2 boot is a fine-tuned version of its predecessor, re-engineered for a sleeker look, better performance and greater longevity. One of its most positive features is a new tread pattern that provides aggressive traction while eliminating pressure on sensitive internal hoof structures. While traction is extremely important, very aggressive traction can inhibit a horse's natural movements and can increase stress on joints, tendons and upper extremities. The G2 provides cushioning at the sole (the suspension system), while allowing the tread to "take hold" of the road or any other challenging surface.

Another enhancement to the sole is the removal of the point at the toe. The tread is rounded for a natural break-over, softening those hard miles that many horses travel in boots. For horses whose hooves were too narrow to fit into the original Old Mac's, there is good news. The shape of the sole on the G2 is different, just slightly longer than wide. This is an important feature that will allow more horses to wear the boots comfortably and securely. Integrating the side flaps into the sole and adding a front protective shield has made the G2 more stylish and streamlined. The side flap integration narrows the boot and reduces the amount of bulk over the foot, and the new protective shield prevents wear at the front of the boot. The rear of the boot is now integrated into the sole. This design strengthens the rear of the boot and eliminates the possibility of fitting the boot on a hoof that is too long. In addition, the rivets that could cause irritation to the frog area have been removed. They are completely updated to fit better and last longer. Gaiters are now included in each package at no additional cost. Users of the original Old Mac's should be aware that the sizing on the new boots has completely changed, and an accurate measurement is needed before fitting. (For die-hard Old Mac's users, the original boots are still available by special order). To get the correct size for your horse, measure the width of the hoof across the bottom at the widest point. Measure the length of the hoof from the toe to the buttress line of the heel. The buttress line is the farthest weight-bearing point of the heel where the hoof wall ends. Do not include the heel bulb in this measurement. Then compare your measurement with the appropriate size chart. Ideally, the length and width measurements will fit into the same size category. If the length and width measurements indicates different sizes, select the larger size. If the length and width measurements are different by more than one size, G2 boots are not recommended. However, since each style in the EasyCare line has different sizing, be sure to check your measurements against an alternative boot. Pair.

I have a 10 year old thoroughbred that doesn't hold shoes well. We decided to go barefoot last winter after all the snow and lots of lost shoes. My Farrier suggested boots. I've been using them ever since. In the summer I trail ride and hunter pace 5 days a week about 1 1/2hr a ride. Never had an issue also do some ring work flat and jumping. My thoroughbred is wild and I've never had an issue because of bucking, wheeling, or bolting. My friend has a thoroughbred that had glue-on shoes she switched as well. Horses needed about a year to adjust to being barefoot but seem very confortable now. We just upgraded from two front boots to four boots. Great on rocky trails or trails with little stones or packed surfaces all of which thoroughbreds with soft feet hate. I've never had a problem with rubs or crossing water. I've never used the boots without a gaiter. I would recommend them to anyone who is tired of lost shoes. Is this testimonial helpful?

I had issues with my QH coming up lame after a few hours of riding, especially on rocky terrain. I thought I would try these boots before putting metal shoes on him. I was pleasantly surprised! It didn't take long for my horse to get used to them. In fact, if I ride him on sandy soil, where he doesn't need the boots, he is hesitant to go out because he doesn't have his boots on. I spend lots of time in the saddle and I had one boot slip off, while loping. I think this was because they were wet and they were getting a little loose. I just tightened up the strap and they stayed on. They stay on in the thickest and deepest mud, no problems there. I like how they are made so when the hoof grows, the boot can expand. The only thing I dislike about these boots is I wish they would make the buckle strap a little wider. It can be difficult to undo, especially if it's caked in mud. I used these boots for three years and will buying a new pair soon. I'm glad they make boots like this. Is this testimonial helpful?

These old mac gen. 2 boots are the best. They are easy to put on and take off, after a little practice. They stay on and do not rub or chafe the horse. They do not slip on pavement or early morning wet grass. These boots add comfort and now my horse is stepping out better over dirt roads which are hard packed and full of rocks. These boots do not come off even at the canter or hand gallop. My horse does not trip over the boots and he moves the same with them on, just steps out better. I also use the pads and they stay in place and do not move around. The boots are very well made and they are very durable. The boots do not wear down even on pavement. I love these boots because now my horse is not stepping on rocks and he is not sore after long rides thanks to these boots! Is this testimonial helpful?

We have been using the G2s for trail riding for over a year and they have been great! I never thought my horse with navicular could go barefoot, but after an abcess we had no choice. I noticed a couple of comments about some difficulty putting on, but it gets much easier over time as you and your horse get used to them. I used to have to give myself a little extra time to get ready, but hardly notice it any more. I appreciate the good fit of the boots and when applied properly they haven't rubbed or made sore spots at all. Be patient at first, take the time to get familiar (product videos are helpful), use the gaitors and you and your horse will be happy to have them -- whether barefoot full or part-time, or due to injury. My horse has very low heels, a narrower foot, and some navicular problems. I had tried on some other boots that didn't fit well. Then I decided to try the Old Mac's G2 and these fit great for him. I was skeptical about using hoof boots, but he adapted very quickly to them and after walking a bit was able to trot and canter on the first day, which surprised me. The boots seemed a little complicated at first to put on, but secure fit is most important to me and the second time was easier, of course. I also liked that the gaitors were included for added protection. Next ride we'll be enjoying the trail!! Is this testimonial helpful?

Just received the Old Mac G2 boots and there are 3 (yes 3!) seperate closures to do up every time you put the boots on, and that's AFTER you put on the gator which is recommended to prevent chafing. Multiply that times 2 boots (maybe 4) and that's a lot of closures to do up for a trail ride. Probably OK if you're into endurance but not real easy for the every day rider. My 17 year old AQH has foundered hoofs and could not be ridden without the boots. Regular shoes don't stay on very well and they wouldn't provide enough protection on gravel roads and rocky terrain. I have been using Old Mac's since I bought this horse five years ago. I have just ordered a new set and know that it will last me at least two years!! Great product!! Is this testimonial helpful?

We live in a valley and deal with mud and gravel surfaces. Mud will suck a shoe off or tear a hoof up trying to hold one, so we are barefoot. So to deal with the gravel we started using boots. We tried all variations and some are better for a quick walking lesson but to go the distance and work or ride National parks, the Old Mac rules! We did notice that when streaming crossing (4 hours into a ride) the boots moisture did start to make the bulb sore which was still okay because the horses had some natural hoof growth that was usable to finish our ride. The Velcro straps were easy to strap onto our saddle packs. Daily we use them for trail rides of all terrains, the horses don't slip or become irritated. Some of the horses have learned to let us know by balking from the barn, that we forgot their boots. If you open up the boot COMPLETELY, you will find they get easier and easier to work with. I have been trying to convert my racking gelding to going totally barefooted, but the amount of miles I was riding was too hard on his hooves and he was becoming increasingly sore footed. I have tried Easy Boots before, but because his hooves are somewhat long and narrow, I have difficulty putting the EZ boots on and KEEPING them on! After a lot of research, I chose the G2's. I am pleasantly surprised with the G2's. They have stayed on his hooves wonderfully and his gaits have not changed- he is still doing a nice four beat rack. I did have a "blow out" with one of the boots. The inside liner ripped away from the boot itself, but Easy Care is going to repair the boot for me. I have really liked these boots so much that I have ordered another pair to go on his rear hooves...I figure now that he is booted all the way around, we can really cover some ground! I would recommend these boots for people that are trying to convert their horses to going barefooted or are just recreational riders that do not shoe horses but need to protect their horses hooves when riding trails. I purchase Old Mac, since my horse is sensitive to gravel. I got my boots 3 days before our next trail ride. She hadn't had them on but her front hooves. We got to the trail and there was allot of gravel. I hadn't put them on her, ended up going back to the trailer and putting on her. What a difference. They paid for themselves that day. Their great!
