Ammonil is a urinary acidifier used to treat and prevent certain types of urinary stones. Ammonil can help prevent urinary tract infections and bladder stones. It can also be used to help control the odor from urine residues.

How it works:
Ammonil contains dl-methionine, an amino acid that acidifies the urine. It also helps to treat and prevent certain types of bladder stones.

Ammonil is a urinary acidifier used in the treatment and prevention of certain types of urinary stones. Ammonil may be used for other purposes, as directed by your veterinarian. Monitoring the pH of freshly voided urine may be advisable.
How to give this medication:
Ammonil chewable tablets may be given free choice from the hand, or may be crumbled and mixed into the food. The suggested dosage for adult cats is 200 mg per 10 lbs body weight 3 or 4 times daily with food. The suggested dosage for dogs is 200 mg per 10 lbs. body weight once or twice daily with food. Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the veterinarian or pharmacist to explain them to you.
If you miss a dose:
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and give the next one as directed. Do not double dose.
Ammonil should not be used in:
Do not use Ammonil in kittens, in animals with severe liver or kidney damage, or in animals which exhibit acidosis.
Possible side effects:
In rare cases animals may experience gastrointestinal disturbance. If you observe this or other side effects, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
