I read an article a few years ago about the downsides of bi-monthly de-worming, specifically, that resistant worms are evolving. The horse industry professionals I talked with agreed that testing before automatically de-worming was a good idea, and my horses (and wallet!) certainly voted for fewer de-wormers. So I bought this test kit for each of my horses and have been very pleased with this service for the past year. The process is really easy putting ~ 1 tsp of manure in double plastic bags inside the mailing package (all provided in the test kit except the stamps). The testing service calls me quickly with the results after each test which have been NEGATIVE FOR A FULL YEAR WITHOUT DE-WORMING! If I didn’t believe before that I had been over-medicating my horses, the test results proved it. Of course the environment your horses live in may mean they need more frequent de-worming, but my results illustrate how my dry California boarding conditions mean that I shouldn’t treat my horses with the “average” worming practices before testing that they need them. I was in a rut of deworming, and deworming. I wasn't really sure why I did it, but was told that's what you do when you are a horse owner. Then, I found this product! Not only did it teach me the importance of a "deworming schedule", the vet on staff was great at helping me along the way. Highly recommend for any horse owner. For 20 years I have always done the bi-monthly paste deworming, and more recently started doing the annual power pac/multiple dosing- to be sure my horses were worm-free. I was looking for the annual power pac treatment, and I happened to run across this test kit. I was a prime candidate to try it because I have 2 horses- a 17 yr old I had on the same farm in IL for 12 years, and a 13 yr old I had for only a year that I purchased out of state in AL. I was curious to see if the results varied with them residing on completely different turfs most their lives. The test was easy, sent it in, got the results quick. Both of them were negative of worms. How nice it was to know what was going on inside of them. I am so glad I opted to do the test instead of the power pac. Not only did I save money going this route, but I also didn't shove a bunch of unnecessary dewormer down my horses throats (also adding risk in creating "super worms" building up resistance to the product). I still of course do the bi-monthly deworming, but now I am not as worried if I get the cheaper brand or am late a week or so. I plan to retest them every other year or so, and feel testing them is a way better value than higher priced products and too much of it. Is this testimonial helpful?
