Well Made but Not for Every Herd...
Posted By: Goats in the Machine (Angels Camp, CA) Jan 29, 2007
I just received my feeder.
First, I will say that its very well made, portable and easy to assemble. I am sure it will last many years.
Its generally smaller than I expected. If I had Nigerian Dwarfs or another miniature breed, this would be an absolutely ideal feeder.
It works well for my Nubian does, provided they do not have horns, but my one doe with horns cannot get her head into the feeder. Also, my Nubian buck, who has scurs but not full horns cannot get his head in, and I suspect he would have a tough time even if he were completely without horns because his head is very wide.
Also, the pan is really sturdy, but it would be nice if it came with a few drain holes. I suspect I will have to stake it to the ground to keep the goats from moving it around, but I am hopeful it will make grain/ration feeding more equitable and result in less hay waste.
Great for small breeds and perhaps sheep, good for polled or disbudded larger breeds. Won't work for breeds with horns.
