I wish I had bought these sooner!
Posted By: Rick L (OSWEGO, IL) Dec 8, 2011

I just finished ordering 5 more of the Sure Latch 2-way gate latches. I have owned horses for 40 years and we have never enjoyed such ease and security as we do with these latches. We installed them on 6 gates already and now we want them on ALL of our gates. These are higher quality than you find in the box stores. We had to retrofit all the gates with new hinges too, but the end result is a pleasure.

Sure Latch
Posted By: S. COOLEY (CAMP VERDE, AZ) Jun 23, 2011

I am so happy with this product. Neither horse has been able to discover it's secret !! It is without a doubt the most secure latch that we have run across. It does not budge or weaken with use or time. Allows me easy access when my hands are full, and a swift kick to close it. I have had all of the latches replaced now.. we are all tucked in and I do not have to worry about my previous escapees.

Great concept

I really love the idea of these. There are times when you when you have your hands full with a horse coming through the gate, or you need to close the gate quickly to block other horses from coming through. I would buy the latches again, but I have had some issues. You have to make sure the gate opening is the perfect size for the gate plus the latch. I have had some trouble with them because I installed them on wood posts set in gumbo type dirt. One won't close after it rains because the fit is too tight. The other somtimes swings open when it gets hot and dry and the wood shrinks. So I also use a chain latch. I still appreciate the convenience of a quick closing gate.

Worry free latch!
Posted By: L. BRAMAN (WEBB CITY, MO) Jun 28, 2010

We really love these latches and keep them on all our primary gates. Locking a gate is as easy as shoving the gate or, with a spring attached, just letting go. Even when used inside, they DO need to be kept lubricated or the latch gets sticky and the gate may start bouncing back off the lock, but WD-40 once or twice a year sprayed into the inside keeps them working great. I've never had a horse even try to get one unlocked, but I suspect it would be impossible. For gates that horses don't come through (feed room, tack room, etc) I recommend attaching a spring or bungee to the gate pulling it shut, so when you open and walk through, it automatically shuts and locks. No more checking the feed room door in the middle of the night!
