Davis Boot Is A Life Saver!
Posted By: pix4434 (CONCORDIA, KS) Jan 3, 2012

My paint gelding needed something better than the old fashioned wrapping with vet wrap & duct tape. So I asked my vet & this boot was recommended. I'm so glad that I have it because it works so well! Just put the boot on & even through all the kicking & pawing from him trying to get it off it stayed put! The current size I have is a 2 & its a bit big for him but with the Velcro I had no problem. Please get this boot or the soaker boot if you need to soak it makes things so much easier & faster!

Davis Medicine Boot
Posted By: Pam at Springhill (PITTSBORO, NC) Jan 2, 2007

In years past treating an abscessed hoof in my barn required a Veterinarian, stalling the horse and repeated re-treatments requiring multiple rolls of Duct Tape. Since I have purchased the Davis Boot I have eliminated all of the above. I have the advantage of being a dentist so the procedure of excavating the diseased hoof and treating the abscess were not only easy for me, but fun because of the relative increased size of the treatment area. Our most recent abscess was my Arabian gelding. To stall him while the other horses remain on pasture was actually worse that turning him out with the others since he paced, swirled, worked up a lathered sweat, and wore the Duct Tape off faster than if in the soft pasture. The Davis Medicine Boot was my saving grace! The boot permits me to treat the horse, turn him out in almost any weather, and not worry about recontamination of the lesion. The Davis Boot saved me the re-treatment time, expensive treatment materials, Duct Tape, cleaning the stall, and my gelding's patience. My only request of Davis is to shorten the Velcro strap and add more Velcro to permit more flexibility in strap closure length. Of all of the materials and supplies in my tack room and barn, The Davis Medicine Boot is by far the most valuable in all aspects! Thank-you Davis!

Needed modifications for Miniature Horses
Posted By: Mini Mama (STURGEON BAY, WI) Aug 20, 2006

"These boots are made for walking...and that's just what they'll do"...but will need some modifications if using them on some small mini's. The straps are too long and inspite of my attempting to fold them over, I found they did not stay and became a risk for them stepping on them. So, I secured them with black electrical tape instead of the strap provided. Also, the top of the boot seemed to hit the fetlock, so to avoid trauma to that area, I used pieces of a washcloth for padding, which seemed more comfortable to the horse when walking. However, I am impressed with the quality of the boot and would highly recommend them.

Can't live without it!
Posted By: Diana Abel (THAXTON, VA) Jan 30, 2006

My Mule Emmett has a Thrush problem right now and we were having to medicate and wrap his hoof every day. The duct tape and wrap were wearing off and it was a real pain. I bought the Davis boot and it is super. He has very tall hooves of course, and took a size 1 boot (a size up from his shoe) and at first I was afraid his tall hoof wouldnt fit all the way down in it, but we put the boot in warm water and it softened right up. Put the medication down in it and he walked off without a worry! He wears it 24/7 for the time being and it doesnt come off unless we take it off. Now he can be turned out and doesnt have to be confined to his stall.
