Saved our barn - and my husband's sanity!
Posted By: Gold N Gunner (INDIANA, PA) Jul 5, 2011

I KNOW they are horses, but my husband swears our three barn buddies turn into beavers whenever they are confined to their stalls. My walking horse, especially was taking the barn down piece by piece chewing through EVERYTHING (including the beams that keep the upper floor from falling down on top of them). Hubby was constantly having to replace boards and even tried covering them with stovepipe metal. The day he smeared everything with used motor oil resulting in a palomino with greasy black teeth but the wood still got chewed to a nub. Pony Pops saved the day. My big guy spends his time trying to outwit the dispenser and is content even when the weather keeps them in for long periods. The others love them too. NO MORE WOOD CHEWING! And Valley Vet is the BEST price with free shipping. I'll keep coming back again and again. THANK YOU VALLEY VET FOR SAVING OUR BARN AND MARRIAGE.

Sticky and messy but fun while they last!
Posted By: J. HAMM (FERNDALE, WA) Jan 18, 2009

Yup, they make a sticky gooey mess that requires soap and warm water to remove from your horse's head, ears, forelock, name it! Yup, your horse will love it! Nope, they won't last as long as you want them to. My gelding will eat his overnight as he chews on it, my mare licks and sucks on hers so it lasts a whopping two nights. I didn't buy the holders for these, just hung them on the rope along with their mineral salt licks. Maybe the holder would have made them last longer but given the determination my horses had to eat the entire pony pop in one night, I doubt it.

Horse Loved It, Owner Not So Much
Posted By: Chance's Mom (GUILFORD, CT) Nov 27, 2008

I bought a few Pony Pops at Equine Affaire this year in the hopes that it would help keep my gelding out of trouble while he's in his stall, which will be frequently this winter. When I first hung it up he was terrified of it and I was annoyed at wasting 30 bucks on something he wouldn't touch. Coming in to the barn the next morning, however, I discovered the Pony Pop entirely gone except for a sad nickel sized piece left on the half eaten rope. My horse also was and still is covered in molasses which no amount of dry grooming will get rid of. I'm happy that he liked it, but 12 dollars plus on something that lasts less than a day is pretty irrational, and the resulting mess is not something I am fond of. My friend bought the Pony Pop holder and her two pops only lasted her 4 days, so I don't think that's worth the money either.

Great for extended stallrest!
Posted By: Laddie-boy (PORTLAND, OR) Oct 10, 2007

My inquisitive, hot TB has been on extended stallrest, and I'd worried about his ability to cope with stallrest... WRONG. This product is GREAT! He never seems to be bored, and each afternoon I find him covered with pony pop goo, everywhere! It is the first place he goes to when he returns from hand-walking. He is an enthusiastic licker. He did manage to shear off one of the bolts (he's pretty strong), but IMO this product was clearly designed by horsemen/women. It's pretty easy to change out the pops, and my only gripe is my need to perpetually clean his eyes/ears/forelock/muzzle/nose/chest/shoulder. : ) WELL worth it, this product is a godsend.

Pony Pops
Posted By: CashAndDunkin (TOWNSEND, MT) Jun 11, 2007

The pony pops are well loved by our horses. At first we used only one on each dispenser .......lasted about a week. We then put 2 pops on each dispenser, thinking it would last longer, and it seems they go thru them faster. Maybe they get more traction because it doesnt move around as much as having only one on. They love them ,but 40.00 a week is getting expensive. So we decided to go back to one on each dispenser. Also , about an 1/8 of the pop drops to the ground towards the end of the pop. Our horses are never locked in their stalls, they have freedom to come and go.....but telling by their sticky noses, they want dessert after they eat. I also think when its raining and at night they must use them more. Wish they were a little more affordable. :-( I do want to keep them happy. I am not comfortable hanging them. I like the dispenser. The Good, Bad & Ugly
Posted By: Just1MoreRanch (Florissant, CO) Mar 22, 2007

I purchased two Lic N Spin Holders and the Apple & Carrot Pony Pop flavors for my three geldings. Two of them immediately starting fighting over it until they both settled down to lick away at the same holder. We were absolutley amused at their reaction, especially since this is the only treat we have found that they LOVE. Downside: my third gelding, a Friesian, never did "lick" his Pony Pop, in fact he scraped it with his teeth and bit off little pieces until both Pops were gone in less than 24 hours! Not sure these Pops were made to withstand Draft breeds. Ugly side: ANTS. A small price to pay for the enjoyment my "ponies" get from these "pacifiers". They are well worth it.

Pony Pops

Our horses just love them! I just wish Valley Vet carried all the flavors. Our horses really loved the Horsea salt flavor, but Valley Vet didn't have it. Valley Vet is less expensive then buying from the Pony Pops website.

Best loved horse treat ever
Posted By: babychops (VALLEY CENTER, CA) Oct 24, 2006

My mare usually sticks her nose up at things like the lickit but she wouldn't leave this alone, in fact, she was sticky from head to toe because I hung it from a rope instead of buying the dispenser. I'll know better next time. he was covered in sticky, crusty goo from her efforts to get the pony pop and I don't just mean her muzzle, it was on her entire face, her legs, belly, back & tail - she was a busy girl. She absolutely loved it. Lasted all of 2 days but it made her very happy. And it was darned funny to see her in such a state even if I did have to give her a bath later.
