LOVE this soft saddle
Posted By: asahabbe (PASADENA, MD) Apr 21, 2010

I have used this saddle on a variety of horses, from a tall, heavy Percheron draft horse, to a tall lanky Arab/Saddlebred, to my current 15.3H Paint. It fits everyone. Never had to make any modifications, although I prefer a breast collar with it to keep any rocking and rolling to a minimum. I jump obstacles on trail with it, have gone swimming in the river with it, and will certainly find other fun things to do with it. BUY ONE.... you won't be sorry!!

Nice Saddle
Posted By: AKRider (North Pole, AK) Jul 8, 2008

My TWH mare likes this saddle, so do I with the exception of the following: 1. Stirrups - too narrow AND difficult to adjust to the same length on both sides due to the strap adjustments (no holes). 2. A bit slippy when used with a pad. 3. Plastic "D" rings for breast collar - could be stronger. This is a comfortable saddle and it allows my horse to move out comfortably.

CAUSED ME TO SELL MY CURRENT SADDLE.
Posted By: B. MARSHALL (OAKLAND, CA) Mar 5, 2008

I am a 61 year old woman, riding for many years, who practices first level dressage and does trail about 4 times per week. I recently ordered a Soft Saddle. All I can say is that it's FANTASTIC! After about 3 rides at the walk and trot, I finally tried the canter. After that, I knew I had to sell my current saddle, that something about it was preventing me from moving with my horse, a 10 year old Thoroughbred off the track who has a back like a sausage. Until I find a regular saddle that "helps" my position rather than forcing it, I will continue to use the Soft Saddle to practice various riding skills that my current saddle was somehow making more difficult to master. Problem areas that I had been working on with my regular dressage saddle don't seem to be as big a problem with the Soft Saddle. I am fortunate to board at a public facility that has an indoor arena, but perhaps there will come a day when I feel confident enough to use it out on trail. I very much recommend this product! When I ordered it from Valley Vet, it arrived in less than a week.

Horse Lover
Posted By: beaudancer (Elm City, NC) May 17, 2007

I ordered the Cashel Soft Saddle because I have back trouble and had been looking something that was comfortable & light weight & also comfortable for my horse. I had been using my bareback pad with striups but the way it cinches, it cuts across my horses withers which causes swelling in that area. Since I do a great deal of trail riding, this is not good for his back. I have been using the Soft Saddle for approx three months and I love it. It is all that I had hoped it would be. My horse, Beau, loves it too. It is comfortable, well made and easy to keep clean. I would recommend it to anyone. I have even sold my regular saddle and use only the Soft Saddle. There was a small problem of the saddle slipping when mounting. I eliminated this by using a small, thin tacky pad under my regular saddle pad. Now I have the perfect saddle for me & my horse.

Great for round horses!
Posted By: SC (VACAVILLE, CA) Mar 24, 2007

We have round Icelandics with no withers so had great difficulty with saddles slipping no matter what we tried. If we tightened the girths a lot, the saddles rode forward then fell off. Found that the BestFriends bareback pad worked great (didn't slip) but wanted something with stirrups so we would be more secure since we are beginning riders. The SoftSaddle never slipped even when we mounted from the ground! The only thing I would like to mention is that the stirrups don't shorten up enough for me (I'm 4'10") and the petite adult is too small even though I'm short because my pelvis must set at a different angle than most(the cantle hits me in the middle of my bottom) and the horse gets pretty sweaty under the saddle. But I will deal with those issues on my own and just be happy I won't be slipping off my horse because of saddle roll anymore!

Definitely A WINNER!!!
Posted By: Carol, Indpls, IN (INDIANAPOLIS, IN) Nov 22, 2006

When I considered buying the soft saddle, I read all the reviews I could find on it. I was a little apprehensive because some of the reviews described having to make considerable modifications to it to make it work. After riding in it just one time, all my doubts were gone. The saddle needs no modifications as far as the saddle is involved (breast collar rings do). It molds to the horse, so I can't imagine it not fitting any horse. It was so soft, it was like riding on a pillow. And when trotting, the saddle is spongy, and absorbs the motion, making posting almost unnecessary. The way it is made feels like it has a small swell and cantel. The stirrups are a little to the rear when trying to find them when you first get on, but being just nylon strapping, they ride easily in any position you want your feet to be in. The stirrups are much more "functional" than I thought they would be. They do not just make the saddle slide to the side when you put weight in them. The material the saddle is made of holds you securely without sliding around. It did not slide from side to side on the horse either. I was able to dismount like a normal saddle, but when mounting, I had to have someone put weight in the off stirrup. The workmanship of the saddle is excellent, except --- the breast collar rings. The strap holding the breast collar ring is sewn with only 1 line of stitching at the edge and one line diagonally, both of which are actually part of the cinch strap stitching. Probably won't hold - going to stitch it more securely myself. Also, the ring is plastic, again, probably won't hold - going to change it to a nice brass D-ring. Strange that Cashel would do such nice workmanship on the saddle and then go cheap on the breast collar ring and strap - Hummmmmmm! Oh well, it's still a 10.

Very Soft Ride
Posted By: Angie (VICTORIA, TX) Oct 20, 2006

I have to say this is one soft saddle. It is really comfortable and I can ride much longer than on my trail saddle. At first you do feel a bit unstable but once you get the feel its great. The only thing I miss is my horn. My son tried it to and he loves it, says he'll be using it instead of his flex saddle. I do wish however that it had a little more quality added or some sort of cover on it for longer life, unsure of how long it will perform. Other wise Excellent product and I would recommend it.

Love it! (So does my horse)
Posted By: OTTB rider (Yucaipa, CA) Aug 20, 2006

I love this pad/saddle. I must admit I didn't think it was going to work at first, I felt like I was all over the place and my high-withered TB was not crazy about it either. However, after some modifications (I cut a spine channel out for the bony girl and use a split pad under the soft saddle to get it off her spine)it works great! It just took some time for me to get used to, now I love it. I have taken it on some medium-difficult trail rides with no shifting or slipping and use it almost daily. In fact, my mare has all but said to me in plain English that she prefers the soft saddle to her regular saddle. I can't go back now! On the down side, if I use the stirrups allot (i.e. for posting) my mare will get sore just behind her withers so I try not to use them much or tighten the girth excessively. I do use a breast collar to keep things in place, although, there is not allot of slipping even when mounting from the ground (do it quickly!). Overall: excellent product and I would buy it again.

Soft Saddle
Posted By: TJ (JUPITER, FL) May 26, 2006

I highly recommend this soft saddle. I bought mine direct from Cashel and paid more plus shipping! I now use this soft more then my regular saddle. The product is well made and the material has held up very well. The saddle itself is very comfortable for both horse and rider. The best thing about it is since I started using this saddle my balance and seat have improved.
