This is the perfect fly mask for our crew.
Posted By: 3MartinsFarm (QUINCY, FL) Apr 22, 2013

I live in an area with a high insect population and I mask my horses for travel to prevent eye injury from debris. I have nine horses and have tried various masks throughout the years. I originally purchased the Roma for my Apendix mare because she has a smaller head and the "other brands" never stayed on her. Pony masks were too small and horse masks were too large. I purchased the cob size in the Roma brand for her and it is a PERFECT fit! She doesnt try to rub or pull it off and doesnt mind having it put on. This mask is light weight rolls up into a small roll, taking up little space in my trailer. The cost of the mask is very affordable, especially compared to vet bills to treat an eye damaged by a foreign body. The mask slides on over the nose and then the ears and head so your horse will need to be tolerant. I highly recommend this mask and plan to purchase more of them.

Great Masks, Remove the tags inside, etc., read.
Posted By: Rescue Me Farm (HAVANA, FL) Jul 17, 2012

Great masks, I have 3 of them now, going to buy 2 more this week. The gnats are horrible right now and I am just up the road from Tallahassee, Fla. I was worried about the mesh being too big for the gnats too and I keep checking but they seem to be staying out of the mask. But I agree it would be a good idea to make the mesh on the mask just a little bit smaller and no tags sewn inside the mask. The tags rubbed a horrible place under my 25 year old horse's head where the label was. So I carefully cut them off now, put the labels on the outside. Another important thing, not a complaint is take the masks off and wash them at least every three days, they pick up dirt and you can't see that they have, it really doesn't show. The other thing I have done if you are having trouble keeping the masks on horses that just don't want them on, but hate to see them suffer the bugs. I sewed a piece of a handkerchief on each side of the jaw. At a sewing store bought the Ironing Board cover holders with clips. They look like miniature suspenders. The handkerchief helps the miniature suspender clips hold without tearing the Lycra and adds a throat latch to the mask. I was having problems too I had bought all Cashel and Absorbine Masks for the four horses, and almost impossible to find something to fit the very small 26 year old pony we have. One of the horses I could not keep a mask on and she was freaky about it, she has done great in it, she does have handkerchief sewn on her mask with a Ironing Board Clip as a throat latch. One horse is almost blind in one eye and he needed better sight and would get freaky sometimes, who could blame him, a rescue that had been abused, and he has been so much calmer in this mask. Third, trying to find blankets or masks for the very small 26 year old pony we have has been hard we took him in 9 years ago. Pony sizes usually are too big, mini horse size usually a bit small. But I decided to give the Pony size mask a try. Fit perfectly, ears a little long but that is not a problem. If you have horses with small head, Arabian or for me Paso Fina's, get the Cob size, bigger jaws & heads get the Horse size. If you have a miniature horse or pony this mask will fit. Thanks for listening, Rescue Me Farm, Havana, Florida. Laurie

Nice Product! Roma Stretch Eye Saver
Posted By: goosecreekfarms (Glen Mills, PA) Jun 30, 2012

I have three horses and like Roma Stretch Eye Saver very much, it is easy to put on and take off, is soft and fits well, and it washes easily. The mask must be very comfortable for them to wear because my horses were always helping each other to remove their Cashel fly masks; ripping and tearing them apart. I did not have any problem with gnat intrusions through the weave however; I feed our horses a feed through supplement called Bug Off and use Fly Predators in our barn and pastures. It might make a difference?

Great Concept but the Mesh is Too Open a Weave for Gnats
Posted By: Tallylass (TALLAHASSEE, FL) Jun 27, 2012

It didn't keep the gnats out and once inside the mask, their irritation factor multiplied quickly. This mask is soft to the touch and provided your horse allows you to slip something up his face, application is a cinch.
