Love this stuff! Absorbine UltraShield EX
Posted By: M. POWELL (JENKS, OK) May 13, 2012

Absorbine UltraShield EX works great and is well worth the price. My current barn that I board at seems to have an invisible fly magnet imbedded within the walls (please excuse my sense of humor) that differentiates it's fly population from previous barns I've boarded at. The fly problem around this place is pretty unprecedented and had set me on a quest for the perfect fly control. Well, I found it when I finally broke down and spent more than $15 on a bottle of fly spray at my local Southern Ag. I love the Absorbine brand in general for other equine stuff but the Ultrashield EX proved that you get what you pay for. I had used Pyranha aerosol last fly season when I was at my less populated riding barn and it worked pretty well but it didn't do so hot around the fly magnets. I tried the Bronco stuff but the flies would literally fly through the spray and land on my horse as I sprayed it. I think they just bottle water and sell it as fly spray but it's just a hunch. But anyhoo, the Ultrashield is fantastic and works great at killing flies on the spot. There was a little fly graveyard around my horses feet after I got done spraying him. However, the whole 17 day promise is a bit of a stretch. More like a 3 day protection tops but again, I ride at fly central. I think the bottle tells you not to get it on your skin but I do because I'm just a rebel like that. This stuff is considerably toxic though and I try my best to stand at a distance while spraying because of the fumes. Do NOT get it around their face, I can only imagine what it would do. I use a sponge to put repel-ex fly repellant ointment on his face because if those nasty little buggars can't get to the body, they all swarm to the face. Before I apply it, I curry and brush him real good then I spray a generous coat making sure I cover everything as good as I can, especially the legs, and then go over again with a soft bristled brush to work it into his coat. The first time I used it, his coat was sooo gorgeous. He has a naturally healthy coat anyway but this stuff showed instant improvement. I brushed it through his mane and tail to condition it and the comb slid right through. Did I mention I love this stuff? Well, that concludes my essay, hope it helps!

THE BEST FLY SPRAY!
Posted By: wranglerjean (HILLSBORO, MO) May 29, 2008

Anyone knows that being around horses means flies and everybody is looking for the right remedy. This is one of the best investments I ever made when it first came out and I won't use anything else. It lasts for over 10 days on my horses even after they have been rained on. Many of my friends use it and seen the difference too. A great product!
