I LOVE the Tucker Tevis Saddle
Posted By: Morsman Horseman (SILOAM SPGS, AR) May 2, 2013
I have been waiting to write a review on this saddle because I wanted to be sure about how I felt. When I got the saddle, I was a little worried about how it would feel riding in it and how it would fit my horse.
Tucker trees sit on the horse a little bit differently than your average western saddle. It seems to sit a little bit higher on the back (not farther up towards the head, just higher on the back)and some people feel that it decreases the rider's feel of the horse's back.
When I first sat in the saddle, it felt a kinda different, but my horse told me IMMEDIATELY that it was a great fit and feel. Man, he responded to my seat so nicely and he carried his head in a level and relaxed position. As they say, your horse is the best one to tell you if your saddle fits or not. I also tried it on my young, green horse that I have been training undersaddle and I could tell a difference in his response to my seat as well. I would say however, that the wide tree is not the wide as Tucker describes. Tucker says that their wide trees should fit a foundation type back and wither, but the tree was a little narrow and bridged a tiny bit on my foundation-build horse. He has little to no wither and as straight a back as you can have on a horse that is not a mule. :)
I got this saddle specifically because it looked as though it was balanced more in the center of the saddle, rather than towards the back like the other Tucker Endurance models. When riding it it, I feel comfortable, secure, but free to use my legs and seat as I need to.I like to be able to post when I need to and some western saddles do not make that very easy. This one does not inhibit the natural posting motion and position. The pommel handle is just as they say, it fits very nicely into your hand.
Once I conditioned the fenders and stirrup leathers, I was able to twist them around so that my stirrups were facing forward. After I did that, I have had no discomfort or tightness in my knees or ankles.
Overall, I have been very pleased with this saddle. I took a risk and tried it even though I was not able to find a single review on this particular model or see it in a saddle shop. I am so glad that I did.
