USDA 840 tags are only developed by authorized manufacturers and have a unique Animal Identification Number (AIN) that begins with the prefix 840. There are multiple forms of USDA-approved tags, including visual tags with no radio transponder and radio frequency identification (RFID ear tags) with radio transponder. The USDA has made moves toward a completely RFID-based system with cattle; each species has different identification requirements based on criteria and should be properly researched and handled.

All tags can be verified visually or through scanning. HDX tags utilize half duplex technology that can be read from a greater distance and are beneficial for automated systems. FDX tags utilize full duplex technology and are a cost-effective option. Shop our selection of products for cattle, calves, and swine.
