Microchipping horses is a safe, permanent and reliable identification method. The tiny equine microchip, which is the size of a grain of rice, comes pre-loaded in a sterile applicator for injection into the nuchal ligament of the horse's neck. It's placed in this particular ligament so that over time, it does not move around or migrate throughout the horse's body. Placing the equine microchip is a quick, easy process and there is no scarring or evidence of the microchip, unless your horse is scanned.
Equine HomeAgain TempScan™ Microchip technology allows for a quicker, safer and more accurate identification process versus freeze branding. Additionally, the scanning feature instantly measures equine body temperature, helping identify contagious and potentially fatal equine diseases such as Equine Herpes Virus 1 and Equine Herpes Virus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM). TempScan™ technology will help identify febrile horses sooner and foster the evolution of a bio-security platform.
Horse microchipping is a standard of the FEI (the international federation for equestrian sport), as they have implemented the USEF microchip rule. Having the ability to authenticate a horse's identity and performance history is increasing validity for show and breeding industries.
