What is Pancrezyme used for?
Pancrezyme is used as a digestive aid in replacement therapy where digestion of protein, carbohydrate and fat is inadequate due to deficient exocrine pancreatic secretions.
For:
Dogs and cats.
Benefits:
Enzyme replacement therapy to improve quality of life for animals with deficient pancreatic secretions.
How it works:
Pancrezyme contains pancreatic enzymes which help to digest fat, protein and sugars. It is mixed with food before each meal.
What you should know:
Pancrezyme enzymes are derived from whole, raw pancreas of pork origin. Tell your veterinarian if your pet has an allergy to pork. In cases of chronic pancreatitis, replacement therapy may be necessary for the duration of the animal’s life.
How to give this medication:
For dogs, mix 3/4 to 1 teaspoon with each meal. For cats, mix 1/4 to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Mix well with moistened food (canned or dry) and let stand at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before feeding. Frequent feeding, at least three times a day, is important. Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the veterinarian or pharmacist to explain them to you.
If you miss a dose:
If you miss a dose, skip the dose you missed and give the next one as directed. Do not double dose.
Pancrezyme should not be used in:
Do not use Pancrezyme in pets that are allergic to pork.
Possible side effects:
Some patients may exhibit reactions, including allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips, tongue or face; hives), diarrhea or loose stool. If you observe any of these side effects, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.

My dog was so sick we thought she might not recover. She'd lost more than fifteen pounds (huge amount for a dog!) and there was no sign of her getting any better. Within minutes of eating she could barely make it outside before succumbing to explosive diarrhea (sorry!) At first her diagnosis was parasites, several different ones all fighting each other inside her intestines. Rounds of different prescriptions did nothing to relieve her suffering. After more tests (and even more money!)the idea that she couldn't digest food properly was posed by a new specialist. Her digestive track was inflamed and constantly agitated, which apparently is the perfect accommodations for parasites to thrive. There was never going to be enough antibiotics to overpower these buggers. Her weight was still dropping, and she daily becoming weaker. We were beside ourselves seeing her suffer and not being able to help her. The specialist decided to try enzymes to help slow down the digestion process to help her get at least some nutrients from the "special diet" we'd been feeding her three times a day. Needless to say we put a lot of hope in Pancrezyme Powder. Within days of receiving it her symptoms decreased and her bright eyes started to shine again. Her weight began to stabilize and then increase bit by bit. It's been a year since then, and she's bounding around just like she used to. Pancrezyme Powder has become a family member because without it her symptoms immediately returns. With it her digestive track can work as it should and parasites stay away. It's pricey but worth every penny! I'm sharing this lengthy story to provide others with the information that took far too long for us to discover. Talk to your veterinarian about this as soon as you can - let the healing begin! Is this testimonial helpful?
