product pleasantly surprised me
Posted By: RLMarler (BROKEN ARROW, OK) Jun 1, 2010

I worked at a pet supply store and was told by many dog owners that the cheaper, over the counter, flea/tick repellent products was not very effective as compared to the prescription variety. So I was skeptical about trying this Equi-spot but the amount of ticks at the new place was shocking and something had to be done. In one week, my gelding had over 50 ticks removed! Used this product and in the first four weeks found less then 5 and those were obviously stunned and dying. The product seemed to last (for me) about 4 weeks. Definitely recommended and when compared to the cost of fly repellant (though I don't find it effective against flies) worth it's price.

dvfarm

I have used Equi-Spot for the past two years. When I began my "battle with flies" I tried three other spot-on products. It seemed that Equi-Spot worked best. It does not last two weeks as directions stated. It does work well for one week. I continue to use spray on treatment but only every other day. My biggest problem is that I have to hose off my horse after riding in the summer and in doing so I found the Equi-Spot no longer works. However, I will continue using this product on both of my horses.

Great product
Posted By: dkp (Leander, TX) Aug 30, 2006

My gelding sustained a serious cut on the area between the chest and top of the leg and was required to remain motionless as possible in his stall. Although I was cleaning out the stall twice a day, there were still flies due to the fact that it was impossible to bandage and that meant an open wound. I used this product and it lasted for about 10 - 11 days. Not as long as the package states but it was great while it lasted. I used another one and by the time that we were able to allow him outside of his stall, flies hadn't been an issue.

Excellent Product.

I've been using this product for a couple of years and all of my horses remain free of pests for about 2 1/2-3 weeks! No adverse reactions at all. It is much easier on them and me rather than messing with fly sprays that most often wash off and masks that end up lost. VERY cost effective and excellent in keeping them comfortable and fly free through spring and summer :)

Like Magic

I used this all last summer and it worked like a dream come true. My two horses had no side effects at all and were protected from all the ticks we have in WV.

Equi-Spot saved my horses!
Posted By: ridearocky (ARROYO GRANDE, CA) Apr 26, 2006

I had my horses running free on my ranch. I came out to check on them and one had scabs all over his face and jaw. He had been rubbing the sores so much that he was bleeding in several areas. The other horses also had scabs. I had the vet out and he said they were sores left on the horses after the ticks had bitten and fallen off. There had to 50 scabs on one horse. I used Equi-Spot on the horses and they have been almost bite free since then. I have had no bad reaction. I highly recommend this product.

Great for my two old horses
Posted By: D. HEATER (Branchville, NJ) Sep 15, 2005

I've used it on my two older horses an 18 year old gelding Norwegian fjord; 18 year old allergy prone quarter horse mare; two spring-summer-fall fly sessions. The horse/ponies are turned out 98% of the time. Flies were as big as small birds. I had to find something to save them from misery. I bought from this site - actually - read the directions and it seemed to work for the horses - but still there were flies not far - and it seemed to work for 3 weeks. I then ordered parasite predator flies to eat the larvae of the yard/manure flies. The parasite fly product goes out once every 6 weeks, the Equi-Spot goes on every 4 weeks - 100% POSITIVE RESULTS - MY VET MADE A HOUSE CALL a few weeks back AND WAS AMAZED!! THE HORSES ARE FLY FREE, YET SOMEWHAT DIRTY FROM LIVING IN FIELDS WITH STREAMS ETC!! NO POISON SPRAYS HAVE BEEN PURCHASED IN 2 SUMMERS - AS THEY ARE NOT NEEDED. I watched the mare all month after the first dose - as she is allergic to so many products - NOTHING - AND NO MORE FLY BITES. I've recommended this item to anyone I bump into at the feed store!! the end of the fly misery!! I can't believe after 20 years with horses - I finally found relief for them and me!!! NO FLIES - after 3 - 3.5 weeks I’ll see a fly or two - which alerts me that its time for another treatment! The liquid smell like citronella - SUCCESS, SUCCESS, & NO NEGATIVE REACTIONS!! NOW THE PAPERWORK SAID ONCE EVERY 4 WEEKS LAST YEAR - THIS YEAR IT SAYS ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS - I HAVE SUCCESS WITH LAST YEARS DIRECTIONS SO I HAVE NOT DOUBLED THE DOSE AS SUGGESTED. I think the combination might have produced the great success but the predator flies live only in the back field - the horses come to the side field and still NO FLIES. NO POISON SPRAYS, NO POLICING THE FIELD!

This is a quality product!
Posted By: scstepha (TEMPLETON, CA) Sep 1, 2005

This product is much more effective than fly spray alone. My horses are constantly bothered by flys, and this really helps them find some relief from the pests. If I just use fly spray alone, I have to reapply everyday. When used along with this product, I only use the spray every couple days. It does only last about 10 days, and works better if you don't rinse the horse frequently. I think it is well worth the cost. I use it on all 3 of my horses and have never witnessed any adverse effects. I recommend it to all of my friends with horses. It smells pretty good too.

Great Product
Posted By: horse_chic (BOYERTOWN, PA) Jul 24, 2005

I use this product on both my horses regularly, and the large animal vet I worked for recommends this highly. I lived in Fl until several months ago until I moved to PA to get married. Unless this product is used, my horses are covered in ticks. I fly spray less using it, I recommend this to everyone

The ONLY fly repellent that REALLY WORKS
Posted By: M. SUDLOW (DANBY, VT) Jul 20, 2005

Permethrin spot-on products should make all other fly control measures obsolete. This is the only fly-repellent that keeps biting flies OFF horses. They now venture out of the barn into the pasture around mid-day when the flies are most active, and even graze in the swampy areas. The constantly swishing tails and maddened foot stomping is a thing of the past. This product only lasts one week, but because prime insect season only amounts to 3 or 4 weeks out of a typical Vermont summer, it is not so expensive to treat horses when they need it most. (My only complaint is that the label should carry a warning NOT to use this product on cats, since I have heard that permethrin can be fatal for them.)

It works . . . for a week
Posted By: Five Dogs (Erieville, NY) Jul 18, 2005

The flies have been horrible this year. We're were doing everything we could think of to control them, including fly traps, feed throughs, clean-up, and fly predators, but still having problems. So I retried Equi-spot (we used it last year on my vet's recommendation). It noticeably keeps the flies away better than sprays, especially face flies. The major complaint I have with this product, which caused me to not use it earlier this year, is that it doesn't last the full 2 weeks promised. One of my horses also experiences minor itching upon application, but this goes away shortly. All-in-all, the Equi-spot has been a welcome addition to our fly control program this year.

Fly control
Posted By: sleepwalk (SNELLVILLE, GA) May 14, 2005

This keeps flies at minimum or not at all. We have 7 horses who stay in the stalls about 25% of the time. Along with good hygiene and scooping the poop daily, we have hardly any flies and the ones we have do not mature. I put the Equispot on them at 2-week intervals. By the way, we live in Atlanta metro area.
