Medium Weight Turnout Blanket is a Great Value
Posted By: Chilidog (QUINTON, VA) Feb 18, 2013

I just finished ordering a 4th Brookside Medium weight turnout from VV. We tried our first Brookside a couple years ago and they wear exceptionally well (wish they were mudproof) despite a relatively low cost. All hardware, seams look brand new and not a single one has so much as a snag. None of the horses protest when we put them on which we take to mean that some thought went into engineering these so that they are comfortable for skinny little crippled up Arabians as well as stout (ok, chubby) tall Quarterhorses and everything in between. We hang them on a clothesline in our hayloft on warm days and moisture from the horse and any precipitation on the shell dry in no time at all.

good blanket

It fits well and is very well made. It was just the right weight for the nights below freezing.

Medium Weight Turnout Blanket
Posted By: C. WARNER (MONTROSE, CO) May 20, 2011

This blanket is all it is advertised to be. It stays in place, is easy to put on and take off, is very comfortable for our old gelding and is well made.

Love This Blanket
Posted By: S. HEATH (MONTPELIER, VA) Dec 15, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this blanket! It is heavier than I anticipated and it fit my horse great. (I did order a size down as suggested.) The thing I like the most is that the belly straps have snaps instead of toggle clasps that always seem to come undone. My horse looks far more comfortable in this blanket than the one this replaced.

Love these blankets
Posted By: g holcomb (WHITESBORO, TX) Jan 28, 2010

This summer we moved to Texas from Missouri, bringing our two horses with us. We had blankets that were good for snow, but nothing like the freezing rains that have continued to fall while building our house. Unfortunately, the barn isn't up yet and my poor horses were freezing. Another ice storm predicted this week, so I quickly turned to Valley Vet and ordered these Horse Journal recommended turnout blankets for both my horses. Because of their cutomary quick service in the past, I hoped the blankets would arrive prior to the storm - and they did. It was raining and 36 degrees when they arrived. I pulled each horse in, removed their old blankets and put on these well-made waterproof jobs, and you could hear the sighs of relief. I think we will all be pleased with these wonderful blankets. (Getting them on sale was a bonus!)

Good fit
Posted By: Boerne TX (BOERNE, TX) Jan 15, 2007

I bought this blanket for my TWH and was pleased at how well it fits her large frame. It has stayed put for days during our current ice storm, days of freezing rain and lots of mud. I am glad to report it is waterproof.

Decent blanket for the price.
Posted By: NancyB. - Western NC (CANDLER, NC) Nov 8, 2006

Pros: I bought the Navy Blue/Tan Blanket - As described, has a generous fit, perfect for the Quarter Horse type/built horse like I have. Also the lengths on the sides are great for the taller horse like I have, provides good coverage all over. This blanket is perfect for our climate here in Western North Carolina. Not to heavy, not to light. Great fit along the top of the horses back. Straight neck line leaves no bulges or gaps, Stays smooth against the horse. No bunching ,snagging or rubbing around the rump & shoulder areas as I have found some blankets to do on my wide bodied horses. Cool Plus lining definitely wicks away moisture! Also horse’s coat stays smooth and shiny. Blanket stays in place! With or without leg straps installed. Cons: No hood connection rings/D connectors installed on the Navy /Tan blanket. Can’t add a hood if needed. End clips/snaps on belly straps hard to grip, especially if you need to remove blanket in a hurry. Metal buckles on adjustable leg straps have sharp edges.

Best Investment
Posted By: R. MCCABE (ROHNERT PARK, CA) May 2, 2006

This turnout is amazing! It held up well through all the rain, wind and mud of this wet winter. It kept our horse warm and dry. The Cool Plus lining worked great. I will definitely buy another one when we need a new blanket, which won't be for awhile since it looks like we'll get another season out of this one. I highly recommend this product.
