Within 3 months of bringing my newly purchased 4 y.o. American Paint to where I board, he began to develop skin issues. First it was rain rot that wouldn't respond to anything I tried. Over that first winter things quieted down, and he was fine until early the next summer. At that point he developed an angry raw area the size of a dinner plate on each side of his neck, just at the shoulder area. The vet came out and biopsied it. The horse was put on six weeks of steroids. The week the steroids stopped, rain rot enveloped the entire horse. It was just a nightmare. Other allergic dermatitis areas began appearing as well.
Finally, after six months of frustration and money down the drain, I bought some "Omegas". That was about a year ago, and I am thrilled to say that my mostly white Overo Paint has not had one single skin issue since starting Omegas....not even any sunburn on his pink nose! His hooves, which have been very good, are outstanding as well.
I have recommended Omegas to pretty much everyone I know that owns a horse. My husband and I, though not taking the horse supplement, are also taking Omega fish oil supplements!
