Keratex Hoof Putty

Was not able to use as putty was old and hard. Very disappointed.

My horse has been dealing with a chronic hoof abscess. I need to keep the drainage track clean and keratex putty is the ticket! It's really important to apply to a clean dry surface. Otherwise it falls off. If you want to add more you need to scrape out the old and start fresh. It's thick and sticky and rather hard to work with, but for my situation I couldn't have asked for a better product. Recommended to me by a farrier who works with and equine podiatrist.

This is some pretty cool stuff. It may seem difficult to remove the product from the can, though with a few simple tools this is easily accomplished. Firstly, get one of those little butane grill lighters, like a Bic. Remove the lid from the can, fire up the lighter and hold the flame against the putty as if you're lighting a candle. It only takes a minute or two to soften the product, then you can dig as much as you need out of the can with a spoon. Roll it into a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap if not using immediately. Be sure the hoof is clean and dry - do not try to fill a hoof hole if you've just soaked the foot. This product is for patching holes in the foot AFTER all signs of infection are gone. Roll a little ball of putty in your hand to soften it, the pack it into the hole. Let it set according to the instructions on the can.
