What is Methio-Form used for?
Methio-Form is a urinary acidifier used to treat and prevent certain types of urinary stones. Methio-Form can help prevent urinary tract infections and bladder stones. It can also be used to help control the odor from urine residues.

How it works:
Methio-Form contains dl-methionine, an amino acid that acidifies the urine. It also helps to treat and prevent certain types of bladder stones.
What you should know:
Methio-Form is a urinary acidifier used in the treatment and prevention of certain types of urinary stones. Methio-Form may be used for other purposes, as directed by your veterinarian. Monitoring the pH of freshly voided urine may be advisable. Because Methio-Form is highly palatable, cats have been frequently poisoned by ingesting numerous tablets from bottles which were left open. Take caution to secure all medications.
How to give this medication:
Methio-Form chewable tablets may be given free choice from the hand, or may be crumbled and mixed into the food. Dosing one time each day is appropriate, but daily doses may be administered in 2 or 3 divided doses if more convenient, or in rare cases where animals may vomit a single daily dose. The recommended dosage for adult cats is 188-375 mg per kg body weight; average size adult cats normally receive 1 1/2 -3 tablets daily. The recommended dosage for dogs is 150-300 mg per kg body weight daily; small dogs (up to 15 lbs) normally receive up to 4 tablets daily, medium dogs (15-33 lbs) 2-7 tablets daily, large dogs (33-66 lbs) 4-13 tablets daily. Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the veterinarian or pharmacist to explain them to you.
If you miss a dose:
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and give the next one as directed. Do not double dose.
Methio-Form should not be used in:
Do not use Methio-Form in animals with severe liver, kidney or pancreatic disease, or those which are acidotic due to conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or urinary obstruction.
Possible side effects:
In rare cases, animals may experience gastrointestinal disturbance. In those cases, administer during feeding or in two to three divided doses. Caution should be advised against overdosing animals to avoid chronic over acidification which could lead to potential problems such as acidosis, potassium wasting, osteoporosis, and other serious side effects. If you observe any of these side effects, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
