good training tool, but I like another one betterRated 4 out of 5 stars
While this was also a good training tool, I preferred the Stierwalt Breaking Halter over this one. The Sullivan's Big Rope Breaking halter was made from bigger rope and it might work better on a bigger calve. My calve was still small and I liked the thinner rope on the other Stierwalt Breaking Halter. I also preferred the Stierwalt Breaking Halter's metal ring that allows the rope to slip easier...and when I release pressure on the rope...it allows the rope to easy up more and faster (giving the calf a greater release of pressure and a bigger reward for moving forward as asked faster.) Both training halters work....but I had to try both to find my preference. Also, even though the Stierwalt Breaking Halter's seemed to give the calf release easier and faster when I release pressure....I often have to go reajust the halter on face and give more release (as both tend to ride up the nose and get too close to eyes). My calf is young and very sweet and very sensitivity. When he does the right thing (walk forward)...and I release the pressure on him for doing the right thing ....I want him to feel the release in a BIG WAY...so he gets the reward and understands and learns quickly. And yes...while he is sensitivity...being a little bull calf...can sometimes get him to act a little bull headed (like a mule)...this training halter...if used right...should take the "bull headed" or "mule like" behavor...and turn him into a big overgrown puppy dog. I'm only not recommending this product, because I like the other one better. This one works...and might be better/stronger for an older calf. But my little sweet guy...the rope was too big...and the release not as good as the other either.
My "GoTo" Halter...Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Been using these halters for a couple years. Love the thickness. Easier on the weanlings' noses and chins (cows, too); and on my hands. Good enough price to send one home with each heifer, cow or bull purchased.
