At first glance, the Stierwalt Breaking Halter may look like a typical poly rope breaking halter. Upon closer inspection, you’ll see special nickel plated hardware designed by Kirk Stierwalt that allows for quicker pull-and-release action to help prevent swollen jaws often caused by the slower release of conventional breaking halters. This unique hardware also helps prevent the poly rope from rubbing together for easy sliding action while still preventing the halter from slipping off. The pressure points and easy-slide action of this halter simulate the performance of a show halter and chain so calf gets used to the feel of a show halter sooner. 7' long.

  I bought this for a young calf ....and to teach it to lead. Works well. It most likely should only be used as a beginning lead tool. My calf is very sensitive to the slightly tighten on the rope. And he is not happy about that ....but he also quickly learned and now knows that if he responses sooner to lighter touches...I will release the rope and take the pressure off the halter as soon as he moves forward. This is not a halter that can be left on the calf without supervision (as I've read some allow their calves to drag a rope around while grazing...it would not be with this type of tightening halter). This is just a training tool. I like that it will grow with him....but as soon as he isn't growing so fast, I'll buy a more standard halter for him. Right now, I think he'd outgrow a halter every few weeks.

  excellent tool for halter breaking- our heifers broke faster and did not gall and swell as with previous halters. The release of pressure is very quick and really helps with the training. We will not break calves out without these halters EVER again.

  This is a great halter for breaking calves. Really relieves the pressure when they give in. Can't let them drag it or it comes off easily!
