Dr. Larsons Non-Irritating Calcium Gel for Dairy Cattle

Non-irritating oral calcium supplement for freshening dairy cattle. Helps maintain normal calcium levels during the critical pre-calving and immediate post-calving period. Unlike its competitors which use the strong acidic salt calcium chloride, Safe-Cal use calciumpropionate and calcium oxide. Cows given high doses of calcium chloride exhibited metabolic acidosis by 3 hours post treatment. A USDA study shows that calcium propionate is a viable source of calcium for cows. The same USDA study also maintains that in order for a calcium gel to be effective, it should have at least 75 grams of calcium. Safe-Cal contains 100 grams per tube, while most calcium chloride gels have only45-55 grams of available calcium. Requires 3-tab dosing gun for administration.
