NexGard Chewables for Dogs

NexGard is a beef-flavored, soft, chewable tablet to control flea and tick infestations in dogs. NexGard Chewables contains afoxolaner, which inhibits the central nervous system of fleas and ticks. Kills fleas within 4 hours and ticks within 48 hours post-infestation. Prevents flea and tick infestation for 30 days. NexGard is for dogs 8 weeks of age and older who have weighed at least 4 lbs. for one month. Give orally once per month, at the minimum dosage of 1.14 mg/lb. What is NexGard for Dogs used for? NexGard for Dogs is a chewable tablet used to control flea and tick infestations in dogs.

For: Dogs at least 8 weeks of age who have weighed at least 4 lbs. for one month.

How it works: NexGard for Dogs contains afoxolaner, which inhibits the central nervous system of fleas and ticks, causing them to die. In controlled studies, NexGard began to kill fleas four hours after initial administration, with 99% effectiveness at 8 hours. In a 90-day study against fleas on Day 30, 60, and 90, NexGard was 98.0%, 99.7%, and 99.9% effective respectively. In areas where fleas are common year-round, monthly treatment with NexGard should continue the entire year without interruption. Effectiveness against ticks was >94% for 30 days.

What you should know: NexGard is for dogs 8 weeks of age and older who have weighed at least 4 lbs. for one month. The safe use of NexGard in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with seizures.

How to give this medication: NexGard is given orally once per month. It can be administered with or without food. Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the veterinarian or pharmacist to explain them to you.

If you miss a dose: If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember and resume a monthly dosing schedule. Do not double dose.

NexGard for Dogs should not be used in: NexGard for Dogs is not recommended for dogs that are under 8 weeks of age and less than 4 lbs. The safe use of NexGard in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with seizures.

Possible side effects: Some patients may exhibit reactions, including vomiting or short duration lethargy, diarrhea, anorexia, and dry skin. If you observe any side effects, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
